Details: the surgery is to remove an obstruction at the ureter pelvic junction. The surgery has a 95% success rate. There will be a small incision on the left side, just under his rib cage. The doctor will cut out the obstruction and sew the ureter back to the kidney. The surgery takes about 2 hours and he will be under general anesthesia and will be intubated. There will be a drainage tube that will go from where the repair was done and cone out of the abdominal wall. If that tube is empty a week after the surgery it will be removed. The surgeon will also place a tube from the kidney down through the ureter and into the bladder. That tube will be removed after about 3 weeks. Jax wont need general anesthesia for the removal of the tubes. He'll be in a "twilight" state.
The doc's office had to get insurance approval before scheduling the surgery. I'm supposed to call next week to get the surgery date. The surgery will be at the children's hospital in San Diego.
WISH US LUCK!!!! I'm a little nervous. I can't tell you how many times the doctor said this is a "big" or "major" surgery. The good news is, Jax will only need to be in the hospital for 2 days! Assuming there aren't any complications or infection of course.
