Subject: Mother's Day 2010
To: "Kids Blog" <preemiepan@blogger.com>Would it be a Jen-o-centric holiday if Maryam didn't make it memorable with a trip to the ER? I'm going to say no. 3 out of the 4 Valentine's day holidays Maryam has been in the hospital or ER and now 50% of her Mother's day holidays have been spent there as well.
Yesterday we toook Jennifer to Disneyland for Mother's day. We were having a great time! We went on all our favorite rides. We bought Mommy a park exclusive Dooney purse she wanted! We had just gotten over to Monsters Inc at CA Adventure when our Tiny Dancer took a header.
Jennifer was going to feed Jax while I took Maryam on the ride. I took her out of the stroller and stood her up on the 2' wall in front of the ride and I went to close the tray on the stroller. Maryam tells what happened next this way: "I was dancing and trying to spin when I fell and cracked my head open!" We think she lost her balance, fell forward hit the stroller tray first, then landed face first on the cement. Her glasses broke and we're pretty sure that's how she got the gash.
I scooped up Maryam and rushed her to the first aid station while Jennifer collected Jax and our stuff. Nurse Monica RN, cleaned her up and placed a band aid on her. She then wrote Maryam a prescription for a free small plush toy and a head-of-the-line pass for Monsters Inc ride. She made us promise to take her to the ER immediately after the ride. Monica gave Maryam a Nemo pin and melt away Tylenol tablet that she actually ate!!!! It was grape flavored and Maryam was hardly excited about it, but she did it and we're very proud of her.
We went to CHOC ER. We were put in a room right away. The child life specialist Chloe brought Maryam a Tinker Bell tea set to play with. She started serving us tea straight away. Later Chloe came in and blew bubbles for Maryam. Maryam's doc looked like he could be Vince Vaughn's cousin. He was a nice guy. When it came time for the stitches they put her in a restraining device that looked like it used to be used for extracting information! It was a full length board with Velcro straps that fastened her down from her head to her feet. Chloe held a DVD player in front of Maryam's face so she could watch Princesses while the doc sewed her up.
Maryam was very brave the whole time. She only feared the doctor himself, per usual. She was over the incident once the initial shock was gone. When we left the first aid station she was rattling off a list of rides she still wanted to go on.
Oodle olly oodle olly, golly what a day.
